Coach Profile

After a successful run as a homeschool mom, Amy is now available as a teacher of Spanish language, fine art, and yoga. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Studio Art from University of San Diego with a minor in Spanish. She holds a bilingual Spanish Teaching Credential and a Master’s Degree in painting and drawing from Cal State Long Beach. She is also certified as a yoga therapist and Iyengar Yoga teacher.

Amy developed a love of Spanish language as a girl growing up in a small Arizona town near the Mexican border. Though surrounded by many Spanish speakers she did not become a fluent speaker herself until traveling to Granada, Spain in 1985 where she studied Spanish literature, Spanish history, art history, Spanish grammar, composition, and conversation. She was then married to a non-English speaking Spaniard for seven years. She understands what it’s like to be a non-native speaker yet truly develop fluency and learn to love a language through an immersive experience that can involve movement, art, music, and really any other life interest, from crafting to gardening. She is happy to tailor an immersive Spanish language experience for your student based on your family philosophy, be it Waldorf, Unschooling, or traditional AP test preparation.

Prior to motherhood, Amy worked as a scenic painter for the theatre and film industry. Her teaching experience includes teaching art in public schools in Los Angeles, teaching Spanish to small groups of homeschoolers, working as a dual language substitute teacher, and she has been teaching yoga since 1992. Her hobbies include herbal medicine, Aryuveda, gardening, photography, travel, and walking in nature.
