P is for Pikachu: Learning Phonics with Popular Culture!
Does your child struggle with reading but loves cartoons, movies, and games? This class for young readers uses popular culture references, like Pokemon, Spongebob, and Bluey to teach phonics and beginning reading!

Studies show that when children are actively engaged with a subject, they learn and retain information better! Let’s use the fun, imaginative world they already know to motivate and encourage your child to learn reading skills!
In this course, your student will:
- Review the alphabet letter names, corresponding sounds, and a popular culture reference every week.
- Complete basic phonics worksheets with a pop culture theme.
- Play topic-related reading games.
Students will generate at least one written work sample every 3 weeks which may be included in a work portfolio and/or submitted to your charter school teacher.

Class size: 2-10 students
Supplies:
Instructor will email a booklet of materials/activities to
print and use for this class. No need to buy anything. Please have colored pencils,
crayons, or highlighters on hand for activities.
